India shines with 2 gold, 2 silver on Day 2 in CWG

Hosts India stole the limelight bagging two golds and two silvers out of the four finals of the shooting event on the second day of the 19th Commonwealth Games (CWG) at Karni Singh Range here on Tuesday.

All the medals came from pairs events.

While Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang ruled supreme in the 10 m air rifle for men, Sarnobat Rahi and Sayyad Anisa got gold in 25 m women pistol.

India earned their silvers through Deepak Sharma and Omkar Singh in 50 m pistol for men and the duo- Lajjakumari Gauswami and Tejaswini Sawant- in 50 m rifle three positions for women.

Bindra and Narang gave India its first gold in the Games, winning the 10 m air rifle for men with a score of 1193.

India was followed by England duo Huckle James and Purr Kenny, who got silver with 1174, while Bangladesh bagged its first medal in the Games, winning the bronze with 1173.

The 25 m women pistol saw India winning the gold again through Rahi and Anisa, with a score of 1156.

Australia took the second spot scoring 1146 through Ryan Linda and Y Lalita, while English pair Geikie Gorgs and Lydall Julia came third with 1122.

The third medal of the day for India also came from shooting . This time Deepak Sharma and Omkar Singh scored 1087 to finish second after Singapore pair Gai Bin and Lim Swe Hon, who earned the gold scoring 1094 in 50 m pistol.

Trinidad and Tobago scored 1081 to get the bronze, its first medal in the ongoing Games.

India completed its tally for the day with another silver, which was earned by the pair of world champion Tejaswini Sawant and Lajja Kumari Gauswami, who totaled 1143 to finish second after Singapore bagged the top spot scoring 1149 through SER Xiang Wei Jasmine and Sdhir Aqila in the women 50 m rifle three position.

Singapore?s total included a perfect 100 by Aqila in prone position. Kay Copland McIntosh Jen scored to win bronze in this event.
