India beat New Zealand by 8 wickets
Powered by skipper Gautam Gambhir?s unbeaten century, India defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets and 42 balls to spare, to go 2-0 in the five match One Day International (ODI) series here on Wednesday.
Batting first New Zealand had posted a total of 258 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs.
Gambhir remained unbeaten till the end at 138, along with Yuvraj Singh (16*), to ensure that India reach the winning score of 259, quite comfortably at the end.
Gambhir and opener Murali Vijay (33) had provided India a much needed start in the beginning.
The first wicket partnership of 87 runs was finally broken by Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori.
After Vijay departed, Gambhir was well supported by Virat Kohli, who scored a well crafted 64 in the match.
Their match winning partnership of 116 runs took the match completely away from the New Zealand bowlers who were unable to trouble the Indian batsmen on Wednesday.
Yuvraj Singh (16*) and Gambhir finally cruised India to the winning total after Kohli got dismissed.
Earlier, Indian bowlers bowled well in the match, with pacer Sreesanth picking up 4 wickets in the game.
Ashwin, Munaf Patel and Yusuf Pathan took one wicket each in the match.
Martin Guptill top scored the New Zealand innings with 70 runs as they scored 258 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Gambhir was declared the player of the match at the end.
After this defeat New Zealand players have to work really hard to come back in the series as they stand at the verge of defeating the series.
