India in quarters with a comfortable five-wicket win over Netherlands

India registered a comfortable a five-wicket victory over the Netherlands in a Group B match here at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground on Wednesday.

It was a comfortable win for India, but after some tough fight from Dutch bowlers.

With the win India, who leading the points table in their group, have have seven points from four matches and qualified for the quarterfinals. Netherlands have failed to win any of the four matches they have played so far.

Chasing an easy target of 190 runs, India lost their top-order batsmen for 99 as Virender Sehwag (39), Sachin Tendulkar (27), Yousuf Pathan (11) and Virat Kohli (12) went back to pavilion.

Gautam Gambhir (28) and Yuvraj Singh (51 not out) then added 40 runs as India were 139 for five on the board.

Yuvraj, who struck his third consecutive half-century, then joined forces with captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni (19 not out) in reaching the winning target in 36.3 overs.

Left-arm spinner Pieter Seelaar was the most successful bowler for the Netherlands, taking three for 53.

Earlier, the Netherlands failed to capitalise on a steady start and were all out for 189 runs in 46.4 overs after captain Peter Borren won the toss and elected to bat.

Openers Eric Szwarczynski (28) and Wesley Barresi (26) provided a good start of 56 runs but after they departed, wickets fell at regular intervals.

Peter Borren however played a captain?s innings and top scored with 38 runs off 36 balls with three fours and two sixes. Tom Cooper (29) and Mudassar Bukhari (21) also came up with valuable knocks.

For India, spinners Piyush Chawla and Yuvraj Singh shared four wickets while fast bowler Zaheer Khan grabbed 3-20.

Yuvraj also got his 100th ODI wickets when he had Barresi trapped leg before.
