Jayalalithaa all set to strike back at DMK

AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa is set to dig out and slap cases against the graft-charge riddled family of DMK head M Karunanidhi, media reports said, after the Chief Minister elect scored a landslide victory as state Assembly results were declared on Friday.

Top leaders of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), in television interviews after the victory, said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) must be held accountable for the ?ruin? that they have ushered on the state.

Embroiled in India?s biggest corruption scandal ever, the ruling DMK?s popularity seemed to dive in what was the first major election after the 2G scam became widely publicised late last year, and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was ordered to vacate his seat after a five year rule.

Voters seemed to reject the DMK?s election bounty where everything from free laptops to cattle, and even gold was distributed among electorates. The AIADMK too had matched the gifts with their own but it was probably because of the graft charges that voters swayed away from incumbent.

Even in her victory speech, Jayalalithaa, the 63-year-old actress-turned-politician who reduced the ruling party to a meagre 28 seats in the 234-seat Assembly, lambasted the DMK for ?totally ruining? Tamil Nadu.

?Tamil Nadu has to rebuilt,? said the AIADMK chief better known as Amma and herself the subject of several graft-related-jabs in the past.

Speaking to television channels, AIADMK MP V Maitreyan said that even though the new government ?won’t go around with a lens? but they intended to hold the DMK accountable for all they had done.

“Tamil Nadu has been made bankrupt…Naturally, the DMK has to be accountable for what they have done in the last five years. The amount of misuse of power by DMK has been acknowledged by the Election Commission,” he was was quoted as saying.
