Kings XI Punjab defeat Delhi by 29 runs

Kings XI Punjab registered a comfortable 29 run victory against Delhi Daredevils (DD) in a league level encounter of the popular Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Sunday evening.

Chasing Kings XI Punjab’s score of 170 runs for the loss six wickets, the Delhi outfit could only manage 141 for the loss of eight wickets in their quota of 20 overs.

Delhi failed to maintain the momentum after having a good start to the run chase with both NV Ojha (28) and hard-hitting Aussie opener D. Warner (29) connecting the ball quite sharply.

Delhi received the first blow in the form of Ojha as Srivastava picked his wicket, with the scoreboard showing 52 for the loss of one wicket

Srivastava hit back again as he picked up Warner at his personal score of 29 runs in the 9.5 over of the match.

The Delhi batting received a severe blow as both the openers returned back to the pavilion in quick succession.

The rest of the Delhi batters failed to maintain the momentum.

Y Venugopal Rao (16), S Sriram (4), I Pathan (3), JR Hopes (7) and TR Birt (16) failed to contribute significantly with their long handle.

M Morkel scored a quick fire unbeaten 16 runs from 6 deliveries, but it was quite late for the Delhi outfit.

PP Chawla remained the pick of the Kings XI Punjab bowlers as he scalped three wickets in the game by giving away only 16 runs from the four overs he bowled in the match.

Earlier, Preity Zinta’s side had scored 170 runs for the loss of six wickets with both PC Valthaty and stylish SE Marsh performing well with their willow.

Both scored fast and quick with their bat and helped their side in posting a competitive total.

Valthaty scored 62 runs from just 50 deliveries while SE Marsh took only 28 deliveries to score 46 runs.

Left arm quick bowler, Pathan, took three wickets in the game for Delhi on Sunday.

P Chawla of Kings XI Punjab was named the ‘Player of the Match’ on Sunday for his good performance with the ball on Sunday evening at the beautiful Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium at Dharamsala.
