Riding on a solid all-round performance by Kochi Tuskers Kerala registered their maiden home win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by comprehensively beating defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets with two overs to spare here Monday night.
Kochi Tuskers bowlers restricted Super Kings to 131 for four after consistent drizzle for an hour curtailed the match to 17-overs-side affair. Chasing 135 to win courtesy Duckworth-Lewis rain rule, Brendon McCullum (47, 33 balls, 4×4, 3×6), Parthiv Patel (34, 26 balls, 4×4, 1×6) batted with authority to give the Kochi Tuskers their second win in IPL.
Brad Hodge (19 not out, 14 balls, 2×4) and Ravindra Jadeja (16 not out, 6 balls, 2×6) finished with a flourish. Jadeja finished the job with a six each off Southee and Ashwin.
Earlier, Suresh Raina scored a 40-ball 50 as Chennai Super Kings could only manage 131 for four. Murali Vijay scored a whirlwind 28 off 18 balls before being dismissed by Thisara Pereira. Raina played a slow innings and found it difficult to get the measure of the track.
