Lankans in IPL may face consequences if they don?t return

Sri Lankan cricketers, playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), may face dire consequences if they don?t return mid-way from the league to prepare for the tour of England in May.

Sri Lankan Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has warned the players,
including former captains Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena, to be back home by May 5.

But the sports ministers? comments can put Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on a collision course with the powerful Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI).

“The latest development is almost certain to create a tense situation in Sri Lanka’s ties with the world cricket’s financial power house, the BCCI which more or less dictates terms to the ICC and world cricket as a whole,” the Daily Mirror reported Wednesday.

Besides, Sangakkara and Jaywardene, other players who will have to return are Suraj Randiv, Nuwan Kulasekara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, and Tilakaratne Dilshan.
