Man arrested for threat call to Khemka

Chandigarh : The Haryana Police Saturday said it has arrested one Umed Singh for threatening senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka earlier this week.

A spokesman of the police department said that Umed Singh was arrested in Gurgaon after his mobile phone number was tracked, following a complaint Oct 30 (Wednesday) by a senior official of the Haryana Seeds Development Corporation, where Khemka is managing director.

Umed Singh was later brought to Panchkula.

The spokesman said that the accused had been dismissed from the Haryana Housing Board in 2006 for committing irregularities by Ashok Khemka, who then served as chief administrator.

Umed Singh was produced in the court of the Panchkula district magistrate Atul Maria, who sent him on police remand till Tuesday for further investigation.

Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had Friday said that security cover would be provided to Khemka, following two threats received by him within a fortnight. The officer had also made a request to the state government for security.

Khemka has been in the news after he recently cancelled the mutation of the Rs.58 crore land deal between Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and realty giant DLF. Khemka had also marked an inquiry into the land deals made by Vadra in Haryana’s four districts since 2005.

Khemka had said that he had received threats on his phone last month, after he cancelled the mutation of the land deal between Vadra’s company, Sky Light Hospitality, and DLF.

Khemka was transferred out as director-general, consolidation, after he initiated action against Vadra’s land deals.
