Maoists kill cops, blow up tracks

Raipur/Ranchi : Suspected Maoists shot dead two policemen as the ultras forced the rural people to close down everything in response to their 48-hour Chhattisgarh shutdown, which evoked poor response in town areas on Monday.

Bodies of two cops were recovered close to Bhejji police station in Dantewada district, about 500 kms south of Raipur.

The slaughtering of the two constables, who had their throats split, was the handiwork of the Maoists as some leaflets were recovered from the scene of crime, Superintendent of Police, Dantewada, S R P Kalluri, said.

He said investigation was on to determine how the two cops died near their police station. The bodies also bore many bullet holes.

A report from Jharkhand said the train movement between Howrah and Delhi has been disrupted after the red rebels blew up portion of a rail track near Giridih district.

Police said a blast took place at about 2 am on Monday morning when the rebels blew up a part of the rail track near Giridih when a goods train was travelling on it.

Several long-distance passenger trains like Kalka Mail, Neelanchal Express, Chambal Express were stranded at various points.
