Jind (Haryana) : Close on the heels of the gang-rape of a teenaged Dalit girl by eight youths in Hisar district earlier this month, a married woman in Haryana’s Jind district has alleged that she was gang-raped at gun-point last Friday by three youths inside her house.
The victim, who is in her mid-30s and is the mother of two children, and her husband Wednesday threatened to commit suicide in front of the office of the superintendent of police (SP) here, alleging that the Haryana Police were deliberately not taking any action against the accused.
In her complaint to the police, the victim, who lives in Jind district, said three youths entered her house Sep 21 (Friday) and raped her at gunpoint in the presence of her children.
“I filed a complaint with the police Sep 21 itself. The accused are roaming free but the police is not taking any action,” the victim said.
The police registered a case of rape following her complaint but did not make any arrest.
She and her husband have now threatened that they will commit suicide in front of the SP’s office if the police fail to take action against the accused.
“We have registered a case after her complaint. The accused are on the run but we are trying to arrest them,” investigating officer Subhash Chander said Wednesday.
In neighbouring Hisar district, the father of a 16-year-old gang-rape victim committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance Sep 18 after he came to know that his daughter was gang-raped Sep 9 near Hisar by eight youths, who later circulated an MMS clip of the crime.
In that case, the police have made only two arrests so far.
