Panaji : Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s personal security officer (PSO) slapped and threatened a truck driver with a service revolver, triggering law and order problem in the North Goa?s Ponda village today afternoon.
Ponda police has registered First Information Report against the PSO, following a complaint by the truck driver.
The incident occurred between 1:30pm and 2pm when Raj Thackeray’s convoy was proceeding from Borim (Ponda) to Margao, in South Goa.
Superintendent of Police (North) Arvind Gawas said that the convoy tried to overtake the sand-laden truck, which had blocked the narrow road.
As per the eye-witnesses, MNS chief?s car siren was used to give way to the convoy but it turned futile and the fleet had to be stopped in the middle of the Borim Bridge. The annoyed PSO got down from his car and slapped the truck driver.
The PSO also threatened him with his service revolver and broke the truck?s window glasses. The truck driver, who was immediately joined by other locals, called up the police control room informing about the incident.
There were heated arguments and reportedly Thackeray?s supporters almost came to blows with the locals. Traffic movement came to a halt until Ponda police intervened and controlled the situation.
