Nitish Kumar begins second innings as Bihar CM

Buoyed by a landslide victory that saw the decimation of the Opposition, Nitish Kumar began his second successive innings as the Chief Minister of Bihar after he was sworn in on Friday to head a 30-member ministry.

Around 2-50 pm under heavy security arrangement, he was administered the oath of office by Governor Devananda Konwar at Gandhi Maidan here.

He thus became the CM for the third time after a landslide election victory this month.

Alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Sushil Kumar Modi also took oath as a cabinet minister. He will be the Deputy Chief Minister.

Besides them, 18 MLAs from JD-U and 10 MLAs from BJP took oath as ministers.

Nitish Kumar was on Thursday elected the JD(U) legislature party leader and retained his position as the state Chief Minister being member of the senior partner in the alliance with 115 legislators.

The 91-member BJP legislature party also elected Sushil Kumar Modi as its leader a day ago, paving his way to be the Deputy CM.

The winning alliance bagged 206 seats of the total 243 seats, while the Rashritya Janata Dal (RJD)-Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) could manage 25 between them.

The Congress fared even worse, picking mere four seats.
