Omar?s remarks: Opp. protest outside J&K Assembly

Opposition BJP and J&K Panthers Party (JKPP) continued their protests against J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah?s remarks in the state Assembly two days ago and staged a sit-in demonstration outside the Assembly on Friday.

The Opposition parties had announced on Thursday of boycotting the rest of the Assembly session, which ends on Saturday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators have threatened to continue boycotting the Assembly unless Omar?s remarks are expunged from the House records.

JKPP legislator Harsh Dev Singh submitted a petition to the Speaker on Friday, demanding that Omar?s remarks be expunged.

The BJP and JKPP are protesting Omar?s remark that Jammu and Kashmir had acceded to India through an agreement and not merged with it.

He had made the comments on Wednesday while winding up a two-day debate on the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

The BJP and JKPP MLAs had tried to storm into the Well of the House on Thursday, protesting Omar?s speech.

Marshals were called to take out the protesting MLAs and in the melee, a JKNPP and three BJP legislators reportedly got injured, BJP leaders claimed later.
