PM holds Telangana meeting with cabinet
Ahead of Justice B N Srikrishna committee report on Telangana issue scheduled to be submitted by year end, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday held a high level meeting with his cabinet colleagues to discuss the issue, official sources said.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister A K Antony, Law Minister M Veerappa Moily and many PMO officials attended the meeting.
Though details of the meeting were not immediately available, it was understood to have discussed security issues since the report can lead to a fresh flare-up.
In New Delhi on Tuesday former Supreme Court Judge Justice B N Srikrishna said the report on Telangana would be submitted to Home Minister P Chidambaram by Friday (Dec 31).
He said the report would offer a solution to the divisive demands for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The five-member committee on Telangana statehood issue has said it will give “several options with their pros and cons” in its report that will seek to achieve the “highest satisfaction of the largest number”.
