Hyderabad : The pro-Telangana ?Million March to Hyderabad? on Thursday hit normal life in the Andhra Pradesh capital, while agitating leaders from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were detained by the state police.
According to reports, TDP MLA E Dayakar Rao, BJP leader Ch Vidyasagara Rao and others were taken into custody near Basheerbagh in Hyderabad. Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) Convener M Kodandaram was detained at the committee office.
Traffic restrictions were enforced since the morning hours and strict monitoring was kept in people arriving from pro-Telangana parts into the city.
Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC has been promulgated in the capital city, banning rallies, processions or even assembly of people.
Office-goers had a harrowing time in reaching their destinations as most of the routes were closed since morning.
Students appearing for class XII examinations also had a tough time in reaching examination centres on time despite leaving home early as most routes were closed by traffic police.
The protestors had announced of holding the rally in the city in the afternoon hours so as not to disrupt the students, though the massive security cordon created problems.
The Million March is to pressurize the Centre to introduce a bill for formation of Telangana state in the present Parliament session.
