Rahul Gandhi fabricating truths: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday lashed out at Congress youth leader Rahul Gandhi after a Wikileaks revelation that he feels Hindu bigotry is bigger threat to India than Muslim community.

?It is interesting to see that the Yuvraj of the Congress is petrified of a fabricated term called ?Hindu Terror?,? said BJP National Secretary Vani Tripathi.

?In the Wikileaks expose recently it shows the mindlessness of the Congress party in creating a comparison between mercenaries like the dreaded LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) and the so called fictitious term of ?Hindu Extremism? which is not really present at all,? said Tripathi.

The BJP accused the Gandhi scion for ?fabricating? truths.

?After the 26/11 attacks, wherein the focus should have been on the trial of (Ajmal) Amir Kasab and the permeation of these dreaded Islamic fundamentalists, instead it seems the bankruptcy of the government to not able to address that and to cover its failures the UPA Govt.

?And Mr. Rahul Gandhi is busy fabricating truths and talking about a non existent ethos,? said Tripathi.

?It only goes to show how they spread wrong messages also in diplomatic circles to save face their inability to counter and control terror. The focus is again on the lack of knowledge and sensitivity of Rahul Gandhi towards the people and the youth of the country,? the BJP spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the Congress played it safe and said it will respond to the issue only after ?verifying facts?.

“We will respond to it after verifying the facts… there is no reason to react in an excited manner. The issue should first be looked into and verified,” party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters.

Congress general secretary Janardan Diwedi too echoed Singhvi and said: “Let us verify the truth. May be there is some conspiracy behind the pattern with which this all is being done.”

According to a latest WikiLeaks revelation, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi feels that Hindu bigotry is bigger threat to India than Muslim community.

“The bigger threat (to India) may be the growth of radicalized Hindu groups, which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community,” according to a cable by U.S ambassador to India Timothy Roemer, which was released by Wikileaks on Thursday.

The August 3, 2009 cable records Roemer’s observations from a “candid conversation” he had with Rahul Gandhi at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for visiting Secretary of State Hillary Clinton two weeks earlier.

Roemer reports Gandhi as saying, in response to his query about Lashkar-e-Taiba’s activities in the region and immediate threat to India, that there was evidence of some support for the group among certain elements in India’s indigenous Muslim community.

However, the risk of a “home-grown” extremist front, reacting to terror attacks coming from Pakistan or from Islamist groups in India, was a growing concern and one that demanded constant attention.

Roemer’s comments that he (Rahul Gandhi) “was referring to the tensions created by some of the more polarizing figures in the BJP such as Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi,” media reports said Friday.

This cable is one of about 3,038 U.S. diplomatic cables sent from Delhi and leaked by whistle-blower website WikiLeaks.
WikiLeaks is releasing a quarter million secret US documents and 5,087 records amongst these refer to India.
