Rain in Australia match made the difference, says Dhoni

Colombo : India’s captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni blamed the rain intervention in their first Super Eight match against Australia for their ouster from the World Twenty20 Championship.

India beat South Africa by a solitary run here Tuesday but failed to qualify for the semifinal due to Pakistan’s superior run-rate.

India, who ended the tournament tied with Australia and Pakistan on four points, needed to restrict South Africa to 121 or less to qualify for the semis after scoring 152 for six.

South Africa lost the match narrowly but put India also out of the tournament by scoring 151 all out in 19.5 overs.

“If you take the Australia game out, where the rain intervened, we performed brilliantly and can’t have control over how other teams played,” said Dhoni.

Australia had thrashed India by nine wickets and more than five overs to spare.

“Overall I’m quite happy with how the team performed. There were instances where we should have had 10-15 runs more on the board. We lost too many wickets early,” Dhoni said talking about the final match against the South Africans.

South African captain was left disappointed by his team’s performance in the tournament as they lost all three of the Super Eight matches.

“Disappointed isn’t the word to describe it, we’ve had a poor tournament,” AB de Villiers said.

“We’ve let the country down and that’s what hurts most. We did all the preparation possible, we thought we were ready but the guys didn’t click,” he said.

Come on Indians, this is rubbish. EXCUSES , EXCUSES how can your team perform, constructive critisism is vital to improvement, but how can your team improve when they always find lame excuses, this time it is rain – Did not Dhonbi win the toss, did not the weather forecast predict rain, then why complain after loosing ? . the last time it “too much cricket” then earlier it was “too little cricket” then it was “Colombo is hot” is’nt Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi hotter – Colombo reaches Max 35 degrees, you Indian fans know more than us what the temperature over there is? I have said this before and I say it again, there is no team in the world that can match Indian talent and ability – but your problem is your Commentators, they are expected to be fair like umpires but they are more partisan than the players, in fact it was a shame on the last tour of Sri lanka to see both Arun and Sanjay giving commentaries wearing Indian players shirts, I was angry at the disrepute they have brought to the game, it was worse when they said that although they should be impartial yet they are Indians, This is not war my friends this is just a game, you win some you loose some, I take my hat off to the Pakistan captain Hafees, even when Ramees Raja put it to him about the wicket being not upto standard he refused to be drawn into an unsportsman like comment and said very clearly “it is the same for both teams, Sri Lanka played better and deserved to win”.
The Indian team are world beaters, but they will never improve unless they are critisised for bad performance, Also your players should learn from little Sri Lanka followers of the Indian Lord Buddha – Just look at the way they behave when they take a wicket – Sri lanka is just happy and get together and share joy – whereas the Indians will shout at the batsman and use foul language, this is unnecessary beacuse the batsman has accepted the fact that he is out and is on his way to the pavilion, If he refuses to go after then umpire has given him out then shout, use foul language or even get the Indian Army to throw him out. – this is not the way we as South Asian with such rich culture should behave – lets leave it to the Aussies , NZ or the South African to do a this – they are without culture and we feel sorry for them, we should never get angry with them we should sympathise with their behavior.
