Shane Watson remained unbeaten on 101 as Australia reached 224 for five at stumps in the first innings against India on the opening day of the first Test here Friday.
The Australians were in a strong position at 218 for three in the 83rd over before Zaheer Khan struck twice in consecutive overs. He got an lbw decision against Mike Hussey (17) and bowled Marcus North for a duck in the 85th.
Watson, who was dropped on one and 38, reached his second Test hundred just before stumps and finished not out 101.
The 29-year-old all-rounder played a vital role in setting the pace for Australia in an innings that contained eight boundaries.
