Somdev brings first tennis gold for India in CWG
Creating history, Somdev Devvarman clinched a gold for India in the Commonwealth Games as he became the first Indian to achieve the feat, beating Australia’s Greg Jones 6-4, 6-2 in the men’s singles final here on Sunday.
After India’s tennis icons like Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza failed, Somdev brought cheers to the Indians bagging the 29th yellow metal for the country and the first ever for tennis in Commonwealth Games.
“I worked hard on it. I will love to do it again,” he said after the match.
