Lucknow : A district leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP) was shot dead at his house in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad town Monday, police said.
The assailants barged into SP leader Yashveer Singh’s house in the Kavinagar area and fired several rounds, killing him instantly, a police official said.
The killing has sent shock waves across the region as the SP leader had been receiving threats to his life for some time. The victim was also an office-bearer of the Ghaziabad lawyers council.
Eye witnesses told police that four heavily armed assailants shot dead Singh, who was with his family at the time.
“The assailants escaped soon after killing Yashveer Singh. We are on a look out,” a police official told IANS.
The profusely bleeding leader was rushed to a nearby medical facility, but was declared dead by doctors.
A heavy police posse has been deployed at his house and teams have been constituted to nab the culprits. Police suspect old animosity behind the murder.
