UP legislator’s wife murdered in Delhi

New Delhi  : A Uttar Pradesh legislator’s wife was shot and brutally stabbed several times to death at her home in Delhi Wednesday, police said.

Rehana Chaudhary, 40, wife of Haji Aleem, a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, was killed at her New Jafrabad home in east Delhi, while her husband was away for Haj pilgrimage, police said.

The police suspects the killing took place late at night or early morning. She had received a gunshot injury on her chest and 10 stab injuries, including two on the neck.

Two tea cups were found in a room, indicating that the entry into the house was friendly.

“A few things in the house are displaced and some cash is missing,” Sanjay Beniwal, joint commissioner of police, told IANS.

She was living in a two-bedroom flat on ground floor of a three storied building made on Delhi Development Authority land. The house has two entries, one from the from the front and the other from the rear.

According to a neighbour, Rehana’s domestic help, Shahjahan, came around 9.30 a.m. and spotted her body lying in a pool of blood in the drawing room. She informed the neighbours and police.

Rehana was Aleem’s second wife and was living alone in the house. She came to her Delhi home four days ago from Bulandshahr along with her husband. Police said Aleem left for Mecca Monday.

“I saw her on the floor in a pool of blood. She was bleeding heavily and there were several injuries on her body,” said Shahjahan.

She said Rehana had no enemies.

“It was very horrifying for me to see her like this,” said Shahjahan, who has been working with Rehana for the past one year.

Aleem has four sons from his first wife Kamar Jahan.
