Vijay Bahuguna named Uttarakhand chief minister

Congress MP Vijay Bahuguna will be the next chief minister of Uttarakhand, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad announced here Monday.

“It was decided by the MLAs and all the party leaders that Vijay Bahuguna will be the chief minister,” Azad announced.

Bhaguna is the Lok Sabha MP from Tehri Garhwal.

Thanking Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Bahuguna just said: “I will take all sections of the party along and there will be no breakup.”

Bahuguna, 65, is the son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna.

An advocate by profession, Bahuguna has served as a judge of the Allahabad High Court. He also served as the vice chairman of the Uttarakhand Planning Commission.

The second-time MP from Tehri Garhwal is the brother of Rita Bhaguna Joshi, who is the chief of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.
