Virender Sehwag withdrawn from ODI series with South Africa

Aggressive opener Virender Sehwag has been advised to withdraw from the One Day International (ODI) series against South Africa to tend to his shoulder, the Indian cricket board said on Thursday.

Rohit Sharma will replace him in the squad, said a communique by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Murali Vijay will stay back in South Africa for the ODI series, as the seventeenth playing member of the squad, BCCI honorary secretary N. Srinivasan said.

On Wednesday, India stayed alive in the three-match series with a 87-run series levelling win over South Africa in the second cricket Test in Durban.

Chasing a target of 303, South Africa were bowled out for 215 and lost the match in four days at the Kingsmead Stadium. It was also the Proteas’ third consecutive defeat here.
