West Bengal governor to visit Lalgarh on Jan 19

West Bengal, Governor M K Narayanan will visit on Jan 19 Lalgarh’s Nitai village, the scene of a carnage last week that killed eight people and wounded many.

”The Governor will visit Netai village in West Midnapore district of the state on January 19. His schedule is being prepared,” a Raj Bhavan spokesman said.

The governor may also visit Jhalda in Purulia district where seven Forward Bloc activists were gunned down by Maoists last month, but the latter was not yet finalized.

A visibly perturbed West Bengal governor had earlier reviewed the state’s law and order situation and directed the top brass of the state administration to be more pro-active to control political clashes.

He had summoned Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh, Home Secretary G D Goutama and Director General of Police N Mukherjee for a brief over the present situation and the steps the administration was taking to restore peace.

”No democracy has place for such violence,” he had said in a statement soon after the Nitai village carnage.
