Youth found hanging in police station in West Bengal

Siliguri : An undertrial was found hanging from the ceiling inside the Pradan Nagar Police station on Monday creating tension in the area.

Gautam Pal (23), a resident of Prakash Nagar, who was arrested by police on Friday, was found hanging by the neck tied with his trousers to the ceiling of the police station’s bathroom.

A preliminary report said the youth, an accused member of a motor cycle lifting gang, had wet his trousers and used it to end his life.

His body was found after the door of the bathroom was broken open as there was no response from the inside of the toilet.

He was arrested along with three others on Friday, and had been on three-day police remand by a court order the following day.

He was to be produced before the chief judicial magistrate court on Monday.

A judicial inquiry has been ordered as the matter was reported to the Human Rights Commission regarding the unnatural death in the police custody.
