15 more mega food parks on anvil

New Delhi : Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has proposed to set up 15 more Mega Food Parks in the Budget for 2011-12 presented in Parliament Monday.

An estimated 40% of the fruit and vegetable production in India goes waste due to lack of storage, cold chain and transport infrastructure.

To address these issues the 11th Plan target for number of Mega Food Parks was set at 30. Mukherjee further stated that 15 such Parks have already been sanctioned.
