Oil production not hit by clashes: South Sudan

South Sudan said Sunday that oil production in the country has not been affected by the recent clashes.

South Sudan’s daily oil production up to date is 250,000 barrels, Xinhua quoted Mayan Dot, South Sudan’s ambassador to Sudan, as saying at a press conference here.

The ambassador said most of the oil fields situated in the eastern part of his country, have not been affected by the clashes so far.

What happened in South Sudan was a political matter instead of a tribal conflict, he said.

Violent clashes erupted in South Sudan Dec 15 between two military factions, one descending from the Dinka tribe to which President Salva Kiir Mayardit belongs, and the other descending from the Nuer tribe, to which former vice president Riek Machar belongs.

Machar is accused of plotting to topple the government.
