Satyam scam accused Raju discharged from NIMS after a year

Satyam financial scam main accused Ramalinga Raju has been discharged from Nizam?s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) hospital here, where was admitted for the better half of his jail tenure.

Raju, who was admitted in the NIMS in August 2009 after being arrested in January that year, was discharged early on Saturday as he took a backdoor to leave the hospital away from media glare.

He had continued being at the hospital even after he was granted bail in August this year by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has approached the Supreme Court challenging Raju?s bail and the apex court had on Friday issued notice to the alleged scamster on why his bail should not be cancelled.

The Supreme Court will take up the case in the latter half of October.

The CBI is likely to serve notice on Raju on Monday for further questioning.

On Saturday, Raju had appeared before the CBI authorities after being discharged. He is required to appear before the CBI daily as per the bail conditions but was exempted for it as long as he was in hospital.

The disgraced former Satyam chief, Raju was under treatment for Hepatitis C and heart ailments at the NIMS and had paid about Rs 8 lakh for treatment.

He will be under treatment at home for another 12 weeks, his lawyer Bharat Kumar said.

Kumar added that Raju was discharged as his condition had improved, though he was not completely cured.
