Sensex down 152 points, metals, bank stocks slide

Mumbai  : A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 152 points down in late afternoon trade Friday.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,768.00 points, was ruling at 18,639.65 points, down 152.28 points or 0.81 percent up from its previous day’s close at 18,791.93 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 18,769.59 points and a low of 18,611.76 points in intra-day trade.

The BSE midcap index was down 43.04 points, while the smallcap index was down by 29.41 points.

On the sectoral front, the BSE capital goods index was down 148.85 points, followed by the metals index, down 146.87 points, Bank index, down 144.75 points and auto index, down 107.33 points.

The wider 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also down by 49.10 points or 0.86 percent at 5,669.60 points.

Among other Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei was up 0.22 percent while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was trading 0.15 percent higher. However, Shanghai’s Composite Index was down 0.16 points.
