Mirwaiz Umar Farooq attacked over pro-separatist stand
Chandigarh : Hurriyat leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Bilal Lone were on Thursday attacked by alleged right-wing Hindu outfits and Kashmiri Pandits? groups here over their pro-separatist stand.
All Party Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz and Lone were sited on the dais, taking questions from the audience, when they were attacked and heckled.
Police reacted swiftly and took away the Hurriyat leaders to safety.
Reports said that Mirwaiz was punched on the face, though police refused to confirm it.
They were attending a seminar here, organized by International Democratic Party, a human rights outfit, on ?Kashmir problems with reference to Indo-Pak relation?.
His speech was also disrupted by protestors.
The protestors raised anti-Mirwaiz slogans and pelted stones at the KIshan Bhawan, which was hosting the function.
The seminar resumed after the chaos was brought under control.
