Falak coping well, could be out of ICU soon

Falak, a two-year-old baby admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) with grievous injuries in January, is doing well and may be moved out of the intensive care unit in a couple of days, doctors attending on her said Thursday.

“She is coping well. She has been off the ventilator for the last three days,” Deepak Agrawal, assistant professor (neurosurgery) at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, told IANS.

“Presently, she is not critical but stable… She is opening her eyes and moving her legs on her own,” said Agrawal.

Agrawal, who with a team of 10 resident doctors, has been closely monitoring Falak for the past 43 days, added that they have stopped administering strong antibiotics as the baby had not developed any infection and was responding to treatment.

“Maybe in a couple of days, she will be out of the ICU,” he said.

Agrawal disclosed that they had received about 60 mails from various places like the US, Canada and across the country to adopt the two-year-old.

Falak, who was admitted to the AIIMS Jan 18 with a fractured skull, bruises and human bite marks all over her body, has undergone five life saving surgeries. A teenager, claiming to be her mother, got her admitted to the hospital.
