Hoax call triggers bomb scare in Games Village

Bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs checked every nook and corner of the Commonwealth Games Village following an anonymous call which said a bomb has been kept inside the village.

Though the call turned out to be a hoax one, it created a big flutter among the security personnel in the Village, who quickly swung into action and combed the entire place thoroughly, specially the residential wings of the Village, where around seven thousand athletes are staying.

The sprawling Games Village houses about 1200 apartments. All 14 blocks and 34 towers were thoroughly searched, but nothing suspicious was found.

According to a Delhi Police official, the boy, who made the hoax call, has been arrested after tracking down his mobile number.

The boy, who stays at a slum in the city, seemed to be a cranky person and raised the false alarm to get some of his friends into trouble, the official said.

As a precautionary measure, the police also searched the other venues and the main press centre of the Games.
