Life back to normal in east Delhi, six more arrested

New Delhi  :  Two days after large scale rioting in which a man was killed, life was limping back to normal in Mayur Vihar Phase III of east Delhi Tuesday as schools and markets opened up, while six people were arrested for indulging in fresh arson and rioting Monday.

Police has registered a fresh case of rioting at New Ashok Nagar police station Tuesday after 20 people indulged in stone pelting Monday.

One man was killed Sunday and many others were injured, including 15 policemen, when police opened fire after a mob that went on the rampage after two men on a two-wheeler were injured when police tried to stop them.

A total of 22 people have been earlier detained for rioting Sunday after the incident.

Police have also registered a case based on the statement of Kamruddin, who was one of the two people on the two-wheeler.

“The police officials, who were at barricade, were trying to bring him to a conscious state but a rumour spread that police killed a man,” said a senior police officer.

Kamruddin too coming out of the police station told media that he was “drunk and was driving his two-wheeler”.

“Some vehicle hit my scooter from behind and I fell down after that I was unconscious,” Kamruddin told reporters.

Asked whether some police official hit him from behind, he said: “No. A car hit my bike from behind.”

The whole violence on Sunday erupted after Kamaruddin was injured at Mayur Vihar police picket and someone spread the rumour that a Khoda village resident was killed by a police.

A local resident outside his house at Khoda Village, Ravindra Kumar said: “We were not aware that it was a mess created by a drunken man. We came to know that a man was killed by police so we all gathered and protested but youngsters rioted. This was not done. The rioting has brought our village a bad name.”
