Supplementary grants passed in LS as Parl adjourned again over JPC demand

Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the 14th working day on Wednesday as the deadlock over demand for a JPC into the 2G Spectrum scam continued even as the government got the supplementary demands passed in the Lok Sabha amidst the din.

The only notable business transacted during the Winter Session of the Parliament was the passing of the Supplementary Demands for Grants (General) for 2010-11 in the Lower House.

As the Opposition continued its noisy demands for a JPC, Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee moved the supplementary demands and appropriation bills, which were passed by a voice vote without a debate.

The Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill, 2010, was also introduced by Law minister Veerappa Moily.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon after this as the Opposition, including BJP and AIADMK, continued their demand for JPC into the 2G scam.

The Lower House was finally adjourned for the day when similar protests were repeated after reassembling.

Earlier, Speaker Meira Kumar made an obituary reference in the memory of former Minister and Haryana Governor Mahabir Prasad and read a statement on the occasion of the World AIDS Day.

The Rajya Sabha was also adjourned for the day after noisy protests were repeated by Opposition benches when it met following the first adjournment till noon.

An All-party meeting on Tuesday failed to break the logjam that has ground the Indian Parliament to a halt over the 2G scam.

According to reports, at the meeting of leaders of all parties, called by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, did not arrive any consensus over breaking the Parliament deadlock.

Leader of Opposition Sushma Swarak remained firm on her stand and said the Parliament will not function till the UPA government set up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

A CAG report had held former Telecom Minister A Raja ?personally responsible? for costing the national exchequer a loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore through ?illogical? sale of 2G telecom spectrum in 2008.
