Supreme Court upholds Monica Bedi’s conviction
New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the conviction of actress Monica Bedi, the girlfriend of underworld don Abu Salem, in a fake passport case.
A two-member bench comprising justices B Sudershan Reddy and S S Nijjar rejected Monika Bedi’s prayer that she could not be convicted in India since she had been convicted by a Portugal court for the same offence.
The court, however, reduced her punishment to the period of imprisonment she had already undergone (two-and-half years).
A sessions court in Hyderabad had handed her five years jail which was reduced to 3 by the Andhra Pradesh High Court later.
The SC also upheld the conviction of two other co-accused in the case.
