IGNOU launches programme in Teaching German

New Delhi : Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched ?Diploma in Teaching German as a Foreign Language? Programme in association with the Max Muller Bhavan (Goethe-Institut ), New Delhi and the University of Vienna on Tuesday.

Thomas Matussek, Ambassador of Germany to India, Ferdinand Maultachl, Ambassador of Austria to India and Phillipe Welti, Ambassador of Switzerland jointly launched the programme.

The programmme has been designed to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of German teachers within Schools in the country, said an IGNOU spokesperson.

It is being run by the School of Foreign Languages , IGNOU and coordinated by Renu Bharadwaj.

Matussek remarked that the launch of the Training programme in German language was a part of the German Embassy?s endeavour to spread awareness about their country in India , especially in second tier cities.

?Learning German opens doors to 13 European countries. Foreign language training has become a necessity today,? he added.

At present this programme will be offered in 6 Indian cities, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai. It is a prototype model and will be followed by teaching programmes in other foreign languages soon. 340 students have already registered for the first batch, out of which 225 are from Delhi.
