Bombay High Court frees Bigg Boss from night slot
Mumbai, Nov 18 (IBNS) The Bombay High Court on Thursday allowed Colors channel to telecast its celebrity reality show Bigg Boss 4 at regular time slot, instead of changing its timings.
The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry, in an order on Wednesday, directed Colors and NDTV Imagine channels airing Bigg Boss? and ?Rakhi ka Insaaf? respectively, to telecast the shows between 11 pm and 5 am, as these are not considered suitable for universal viewing.
Colors moved the Bombay HC against the I&B Ministry directive and said: ?No date has been mentioned as to when the show was against good taste and decency.?
The high court on Thursday said the channel does not have to move the show timings after 11pm; instead it can continue with its old 9-10pm slot.
On Wednesday, the Ministry said the shows (Bigg Boss, Rakhi Ka Insaaf) cannot be repeated during other time slot nor can news programmes carry shots of these shows, the ministry further ordered.
The channels have been asked to implement the orders with immediate effect.
The decision to crack the whip on these shows was taken following complaints by viewers, social activists and women outfits that these shows invading privacy and show explicit content and vulgarity.
