128 more Indians arrive from Egypt

An Air India’s special flight brought back 128 Indians from strife-torn Egypt on Tuesday taking the number of evacuees to 428 in the past 48 hours.

Mumbai airport sources said the national carrier safely landed at the tarmac with the passengers from Cairo in the morning.

Many passengers wept after touching the land as they looked tiered and panicky.

They said they had been worried about their future and could not move beyond hotels or from temporary shelters because of turmoil in that country.

India’s External Affairs ministry in association with the Aviation ministry and other concerned departments made things possible for bringing back the stranded Indians from Egypt.

The Indian Embassy in Egypt was highly active in collecting all information of the Indians in that country and coordinating with the process of evacuation.

Indian Ambassador to Egypt R Swaminathan the embassy was keeping of updated information about the Indians in that country.

External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said the government was making all efforts to instil confidence among the Indian nationals in Egypt.

There are about 3,600 Indians in Egypt of which 2,200 are in Cairo.
