28 lose vision after cataract operation in Madhya Pradesh

Mandla(Madhya Pradesh) : For Trilok Singh dawn and dusk are now almost the same as the world is becoming darker to him on each passing day.

Nearly a month ago he wanted to see the world better and had gone for a free cataract operation.

He was among 28 people, who had attended the free eye operation camp organised by a private hospital for poor and underprivileged people in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh.

Now all those people, most of them tribals, have lost vision after undergoing surgery.

A day after the operation, all the patients developed infection and their eyes started bleeding.

But they were sent back home after being given a few eye drops, an NDTV report said.

“My eyes have gone weak after the operation. I don’t know what to do now as I can barely see,” said Ranto Bayee, a 65-year old widow.

Many of these suffering from eye problem now fear their families will disown them as they have now become a burden for them.
“I can’t see anything. Now even my second eye is getting weak,” said Trilok Singh.

A month after the operation, when the pain became unbearable and vision started blurring, some of them went back to the hospital, but the authorities have no explanation.

“Of course, there has been negligence. But I don’t know how it happened,” said T S Mishra, the trustee of Yogiraaj Hospital.

There had been no action against the hospital so far. Nor has anybody from the administration met the victims yet.
