Anna Hazare speaks up for Shanti Bhushan in CD controversy

As co-chairman of the Jan Lokpal Bill drafting panel Shanti Bhushan gets embroiled in a CD controversy, Gandhian social activist Anna Hazare on Sunday stood up in Bhushan’s defence.

Hazare, who’s fast-unto-death had led the government to accept the demand for civil society representatives in the ombudsman bill drafting committee, dismissed allegations against Bhusan as means to try to derail the bill drafting process.

?I have been told that a top forensic laboratory has said that the CD in question was doctored,? Hazare was quoted as stating in media reports.

He maintained that these controversy will not see Bhushan exit the panel.

?Such allegations will be leveled against us,? Hazare added.

A former Law minister, Bhushan finds himself in the shadow of a controversy over a leaked audio tape.

Media organisations had on Friday anonymously received a compact disc, containing intercepted conversations allegedly between Bhushan, former Samajwadi Party (SP) member Amar Singh and party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The contents of the tape are yet to be corroborated but they allege that Bhushan suggests the two influential politicians that a court judge can be bribed and his son Prashant Bhushan, also a member of the Lokpak panel, can get the job done for Rs 4 crores.
