BCCI unhappy with Sri Lanka’s decision to call back players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was disappointed at Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC’s) decision to recall its players early from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla called it “inappropriate” and said the Indian board is in talks with the SLC to sort out the crisis.

“According to us, the Sri Lankan players are here to stay till May 21 as they have promised and the franchises are also under the same impression. But now they want to go early and it is not appropriate,” BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla told reporters.

“Nothing has been decided as yet. The BCCI president is in touch with the Sri Lankan board and some kind of a dialogue is going on between the two boards,” he said.

The BCCI is still in touch with SLC to find a solution even as Sri Lankan captian Tillakartne Dilshan said that he won’t be unhappy if they have to return home early for the England tour.

Eleven Sri Lankans, including stars such as Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga and newly-appointed national captain Tillakaratne Dilshan are playing for different franchises in the IPL.

If players are forced to return early, BCCI may block the players’ salaries and also refuse to pay SLC its share of 10 per cent of the players’ earnings.
