BJP demands statement from PM on WikiLeaks

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Vinay Katiyar on Saturday demanded a statement from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with regard to the WikiLeaks report on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comment against Hindu radical groups leading to a furore in the political circle.

“Rahul Gandhi’s remark that Hindu radical groups are a greater threat betrays his lack of knowledge of Indian culture,” Katiyar told reporters here.

“Hindus cannot be terrorists. They have always practised tolerance and harmony,” he said.

“Rahul should know that during the Prime Ministership of his father Rajiv Gandhi, there were LTTE training camps at eight places in India,” he said.

The BJP leader also alleged that the Congress was responsible for the rise of terrorism in Kashmir and the Maoist and ULFA activities.

“I ask Rahul Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh why were 7,000 Sikhs killed in 1984? Congress is a terrorist party and has no right to be in politics. It should be banned,” he said.

A Wikileaks cable published by UK’s The Guardian claimed that Rahul Gandhi had told US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer that radical Hindu groups were a ‘bigger threat’ to India than the Islamic terror groups.”

“It will give a leverage to the LeT and the ISI. It is intended to save Afzal Guru and to have Ajmal Kasab released,” Katiyar said.
