CVC asks HRD to probe IIT-K scam
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is understood to have asked the Human Resources Department Ministry to investigate into the a report of a fake institute in the name of Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur in West Bengal.
It is alleged that the Institution of Electrical Engineers (I) is functional in the premises of IIT-K after some students alleged that they had been duped by an IIT faculty member, who assured them that the IEE(I) was affiliated body of the central institute.
The CVC has asked HRD ministry to investigate the allegation and submit its report within a month.
The HRD is likely to set up a body to probe the matter soon, sources in the IIT-K.
A senior faculty member like A K Ghosh, former head of department of aerospace engineering, IIT-Kharagpur, runs the institute-IEE(I)- and has allegedly amassed support from two former directors of IIT-Kharagpur — K L Chopra and S K Dube.
IIT-K had even “allotted” a staff quarter to run the institute when Dube was the director.
Since the matter came to light, Ghosh has been suspended and an internal inquiry against him is being conducted.
