India-China border talks moving in right direction: Salman Khurshid

New Delhi   :   Border talks between India and China are “moving in the right direction”, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said here Monday.

Speaking to the media days after India and China reached a “common understanding” on their vexed border talks, Khurshid said: “..I think you can only expect very slow but steady improvement in the overall situation in terms of results you get from talks… we can’t get any immediate results,” terming the talks as a “very sensitive area for both sides”.

“I think we are moving in the right direction and in a very sensible way, in the manner that is comforting for both sides,” the minister added.

India’s National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon held border talks with his designated Chinese counterpart Dai Bingguo in Beijing last week.

The two sides on Dec 4 said they had reached a “common understanding” on the progress made so far in their vexed border talks that will provide a framework for drawing a “fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable” boundary.

The two countries in 2003 launched the mechanism of meetings between their special representatives on the border issue.
