Lalit Modi slams Indian government for “witch-hunt”

Suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi, whose passport has been reportedly revoked by the government on the Enforcement Directorate recommendation, has slammed the Indian government from London, alleging that his passport was cancelled because he said no to bribe.

“mere allegations [sic], investigation agencies have come up with zilch, but all asking for bribes, to hush up case, when i said no passport cancelled [sic],” he tweeted from London on Friday night.

He posted: “Most corrupt Government in the History of India. If you cant get someone on your side, cancel there [sic] passport, threaten them, intimidate them.”

Media reports said following revocation of his passport, Modi would not be able to leave UK and can only appeal to the UK government against his repatriation to India if the Indian government sought to bring him back.

Earlier last year, the ED had issued an international Blue Notice Alert for detention of Modi for alleged “contraventions” of the foreign exchange law after its probe into the finances of the T20 cricket tournaments.

Lalit Modi told Indian news channels that he had not received any show cause in the past months and he was ready to cooperate with any investigation but feared for his safety in India if he returned.
