Manmohan Singh doesn’t understand my constraints: Zardari

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not understand his ?constraints?, told Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari to the then American National Security Advisor General James Jones in 2009, secret U.S. diplomatic cables leaked by WikiLeaks say.

Even though Singh was an excellent economist but he was was not convinced the Indian PM understood his constraints, Zardari apparently said, a few days after their meeting in Russia on the sidelines of a six-nation summit in June 2009, their first encounter after the 26/11 attack in Mumbai.

The then U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Anne Patterson noted that Zardari had ?hinted? that ?helping Singh to understand them (Zardari’s constraints) was of importance?, showed the cable to Washington, leaked by the whistleblowing website.

“India was a mature democracy and an ancient nation,? the cables quoted Zardari as saying.
