PML-Q will not support any move to put Musharraf on trial
Islamabad, Aug 4 (ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid will not support any move for putting former president Pervez Musharraf on trial, party chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said.
Taking to reporters here, Shujaat said that despite the Supreme Court verdict on the November 3 emergency, the possibility of future military intervention in the country remained.
He urged the government to step up its efforts for resolving issues affecting the people of Pakistan such as inflation, unemployment and illiteracy.
Commenting on the fate of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), Shujaat claimed the government would never bring the NRO in parliament.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Senate Wasim Sajjad said the SC verdict had extended the effectiveness of 32 ordinances issued after November 3, 2007, by referring those to parliament for validation.
He said the opposition would not oppose those ordinances that were in line with national and public interest.
However, the senator lauded the SC decision of not insisting that the president and prime minister take a fresh oath from a dejure chief justice.
?We would support the ordinance for the establishment of Islamabad High Court,? the Daily Times quoted him, as saying. (ANI)
