Stone-pelting video clip, is ‘regrettable’: Jammu and Kashmir Police

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police on Thursday said a stone-pelting video clip, posted on You Tube and Facebook, is ?regrettable?.

?Police has taken cognizance of the 03 minute video clip purportedly showing some boys being paraded by Security Forces in Sopore, up loaded on You Tube and Facebook,? said the J&K police in a statement.

?In the initial investigation it has been found that these reports have not been verified as yet and therefore to attribute it to security forces with the intention of maligning them and spreading disaffection amongst the people is highly regrettable,? the statement read.

A formal case is being registered against the networks and investigation is being taken up to locate the persons responsible for upload of this ?baseless and malicious? clip, said the police, adding action shall also be taken against other organizations who tried to propagate it.

Meanwhile, there was finally some cheer in the valley as curfew was lifted on Thursday from all parts of the Kashmir Valley on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Police officials said that curfew was being lifted from all parts of Srinagar city and Anatnag and Bijbehara towns in south Kashmir in view of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Depending on the sighting of the new moon, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday or Saturday and it will mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Curfew was imposed in Srinagar on Tuesday and in Anantnag and Bijbehara towns on Wednesday after violent protests broke out in these areas over the killing of four persons allegedly in police firing at Palhalan in Pattan area of Baramulla district, 30 km from here, on Monday.

A police spokesman said that several incidents of stone-pelting and arson were reported from different parts of Srinagar and Budgam district late last evening.

Some miscreants torched a car at Ompora in Budgam district. One 55-year-old Ghulam Mohammed Guroo was also injured when he was apparently struck by a brick during a stone pelting incident at Bemina.

In another case a youth was injured when security forces fired pellets to disperse an unruly mob at Telbal on the outskirts of the city last evening. The victim has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat and has been admitted to a hospital.

Another stone pelter, Showkat Ahmed Khan, was injured by a plastic pellet fired by security forces at Beehama in Ganderbal district. A youth was injured under similar circumstances in Chattarbal area of the city.

Kashmir Valley has witnessed violent protests in the wake of killing of a youth by a tear smoke shell at Rajouri Kadal area of the city on June 11. The protests have seen 69 persons dead and several others injured.
