Supreme Court postpones Mumbai blast final hearing

The Supreme Court on Tuesday postponed the final hearing of the 1993 Mumbai blasts case to March 29 after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) asked for six weeks time to translate a few Marathi documents.

The hearing was expected to begin in the Supreme Court on Tuesday with 179 accused appealing against their conviction.

The Apex court is also supposed to hear CBI cases challenging the absolution of 48 persons.

The Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court gave death sentences to 11 accused and life terms to 22 people in the case.

Others were given sentences ranging from ten years to three years.

Twelve bomb blasts rocked the financial capital on March 12, 1993 killing over 200 people and leaving 700 others injured.

The blasts occurred in the wake of the demolition of Babri mosque in Ayodhya.
