Waqf Board to challenge Ayodhya judgement

Challenging Allahabad High Court’s judgement on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suits, the Sunni Central Waqf Board is all set to file a petition in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, media reports said.

The petition argues that the High Court’s judgement is based on faith and not on the documentary evidences of where Lord Ram was born, Advocate Zafaryab Jilani, who will appear for the Board, has been quoted as saying.

Moreover, the petition also argues that the verdict violates Article 25 and 26 which provides equal rights to all faiths.

Earlier, in September, treading cautiously on the communal minefield, a three-member Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court passed a verdict upholding the Hindu claim that the disputed site is the birthplace of Lord Ram, but ruled that the land would be divided into three parts with one third going to the Sunni Waqf Board and the other two parts to Nimrohi Akhra and the party representing Ramlala Virajman.
